I can't count how many wood tables I have seen ruined, bacause cast iron trivets weren't used. A lot of people like to take the hot pot or dish straight from the stove to the table. By using cast iron trivets, you are accomplishing two things. Allowing that pot / dish to cool so it doesn't continue to cook your food, and saving your table! I have seen towels laid out to do the same thing, but come on, wouldn't a nice unique cast iron trivet be the finishing touch on your nice dinner or breakfast?
